What
is Technology Mediation?
Technology Mediation stands for a balanced approach towards technology
in general and in this specific context, promotes the mindful
use of technology in higher education.
Our academia has a critical role to play in the promotion of information
technologies in the mainstream while being mindful of its impact
not only on education but also on society and culture in general.
Technology Mediation has to do with:
" finding the balance between the innovation thrust of technology
and its appropriate use in the educational context."
" enhancing the delivery of educational content through synchronous
and asynchronous mediation technologies, to enrich the learning
experience."
What
we do
TechMediator
was founded to provide technology mediation services to the academia
with a view towards improving the quality of the educational experience.
TechMediator hopes to help educators with the selective adoption
and effective use of technology in the curriculum.
TechMediator
provides an array of services for higher education, including
strategic planning advice for academic leaders; curriculum
design, courseware development including instructional multimedia
design and faculty training and support.
A core activity of TechMediator is a three-day Multimedia
Instructional Design Institute which we organize at different
cities in collaboration with the New
Media Centers. The goal of the Institute is to help faculty
from local area colleges to introduce and implement emerging technologies
into the classroom with an emphasis on learner centric pedagogy
and user friendly technology.
We also organize occasional specialized events and on-campus
custom training to address specific faculty needs.
A range of online services including access to learning
object libraries and a "just-in-time" training program
will be available soon. Our clients include MIT, WIT and Emerson
College.
Why
TechMediator?
As
an ever increasing proportion of educators look to technology
to help them develop effective learning applications, the range
and complexity of available technology for the classroom continues
to pose significant challenges, both for individual faculty and
for the institutions that want to support their efforts.
TechMediator is a supporting member of the New
Media Centers, a non-profit organization that brings forward-thinking
colleges and universities together with innovative high-tech companies
to explore new ways of teaching and learning through new media.
TechMediators
are a group of "early adopters" consisting of IT professionals
and accomplished faculty, with a seasoned view of technology and
its impact on education. The collective experience of TechMediator
is available to help academics and IT professionals alike to navigate
the technology landscape with minimal confusion and with greater
understanding.
